How to Get Rid of Body Odour

Body odour is caused by the combination of sweat and bacteria usually found on the skin. Body odour is the perceived unpleasant smell our bodies can give off when bacteria that live on the skin break down sweat into acids.

Common causes of this symptom.

Body odour can have causes that are not due to an underlying disease. Examples include poor hygiene, hot and humid weather, recent exercise or eating certain foods such as onions and garlic.

The following steps may help control the odour:

Wash your feet at least once a day:

Warm water with salt is better at killing bacteria than cold water. Make sure you dry your feet thoroughly afterwards, including in between your toes.

You must allow the sweat to evaporate. The best socks are those made of a combination of man-made fibres and wool. Wear a clean pair of socks each day.

If you wear trainers or shoes with plastic linings make sure it is not for long. A leather lining is better for sweat evaporation. If you have a problem with sweaty feet, do not wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row.

Shoes do not completely dry overnight.

Pumice stone solutions:

Bacteria thrive on dead skin. If the soles of your feet have patches of dead skin remove them with a pumice stone. These are available to buy in the market. Just soak your leg in warm water and massage with a pumice stone.

Use of Deodorants or antiperspirants:

Get yourself foot deodorants and antiperspirants. If you have athlete’s foot, you should not use deodorants or antiperspirants. Treat the fungal infection with appropriate medication.

Walk around barefooted:

Whenever you can, walk around barefoot, or once in a while. Don’t put your leg inside a shoe all day long.
